In this series of generative workshops open to writers of all levels, poets will explore various poetic subjects in a nurturing, fun, and safe environment. By the end of each 90 minute session taught by Dimitri Reyes, poets will walk away with a better understanding of how to talk about their own work and other poems while also generating one or more pieces in that process.

Since 2020, I’ve offered consecutive monthly generative workshops for those interested in writing more, understanding poetry better, learning how to read like a writer, and being a part of a safe and warm writer’s community. Each year, the workshop goes through different transformations and in 2025, participants will continue to get a chance to learn from each other as we explore various writers and concepts long-time participants suggested!
Over the past 5 years, poets who have continued with this series have reached many milestones such as acceptance into writing programs and residencies, becoming featured readers, and publishing their poems and books both through traditional and self publishing avenues. Participants who volunteer upon signup will also have the opportunity to teach a portion of our workshop, sharing a micro-lesson on a poem that means a great deal to them while offering their own writing philosophies they’ve picked up along the way.
Open to writers of all levels, the 2025 workshops will have poets exploring various poetic subjects while being encouraged to comfortably push their boundaries of creation in a friendly, supportive, and nurturing virtual classroom environment. By the end of each 90 minute session taught by me, writers will participate in writing exercises, generative poetry prompts, and discussions in order to walk away with a better understanding of how to talk about their own work. I guarantee that every participant will leave each session with one or more new drafts of writing.
