Poetry Inspiration for the New Year

Statistics show that by February, most people are already falling off of their New Years resolutions.”  – dimitrireyespoet.com

Did you know that statistics show most people already breaking their goals for the new year? I’m here to tell you that any writing/ artistic goals that you have can still be completed! No matter what time it is throughout the year! And do you not have any goals that feed your artistic passions? Create them now!

With your art, no one can create that for you, so no matter how long you’ll take, it’ll be there waiting for no one else but you. This is a quick note to encourage you to read your work to people, to open that notebook and write something down, to flip a page of a book that has been on your shelf for months, or to take a trip to your local library (support your library!) and sit in a nice quiet space with a book.

If people are telling you that you have talent and/or a knack for something, you should pursue it, especially if you’re reading this post because that means that you enjoy your talents! As an educator, I know that everyone is talented at something and the job of an educator is to guide them in the right direction. The difference between those who end up pursuing what they love and those who don’t has to do with the amount of effort one puts into their own pleasures. No one wakes up being an athlete, an entrepreneur, or an artist, it has to be worked at on a day-to-day basis and knowing what kind of creator you are is essential.

I speak to so many of you online who’ve dedicated yourselves to your writing and I congratulate and celebrate you for that. Week after week, comments come in about people turning to my videos to learn about ways in which they can do better; they take it upon themselves to become students so much so that some become Patreon members.

With these individuals, I congratulate them even further because they’re doing the work— with me and on their own. Their consistencies has helped them all reap rewards, too. Since January 2019, poet’s I’ve worked with have attended residencies, gotten fellowships. poetry, & book publications, and have secured jobs as editors for different magazines.

Others who have worked with me have additionally since found writer communities of their own or left to concentrate on their work more independently and for that I am humbled. As I’ve mentioned many times, one of my main goals as a writer is to bridge the gap between the poetry desert and the individual. I also want to be that cog that helps move along the machine that is your writing potential. Though this can mean that I am continuously helping people for a season, there are just as many individuals that have been with me since the beginning of my channel, and for that I am eternally grateful.
